Hi everyone,

I'm re-circulating the below information because the library continues
to receive questions concerning the topics contained in the
information below.

Thanks.

Shannon

The Braille and Talking Book Library is pleased to announce that, as
of Tuesday, August 11, 2020, we will begin gradually circulating
braille and talking books, descriptive DVDs and talking book machines
to our patrons. Limited BTBL staff will be on-site Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, and Thursdays to handle backlogs and check out books
through the U.S. postal service. When not in the office, staff will
continue teleworking. This limited staffing level will ensure
appropriate physical distancing.

Patrons may now return any remaining library materials in their
possession as we will be able to process returned mail.

All returned materials are quarantined before being circulated to patrons.

In the weeks ahead as we gradually work through the backlog of
thousands of returned items, you may begin to receive library
materials at home again. Shipment times are expected to be delayed
due to our limited staffing levels and any pandemic-related USPS
delays.
BTBL staff will resume processing of new applications effective August
3. Please be patient with us as we work through the backlog.

At this time we are unable to resume normal telephone service. We hope
to facilitate full telephone service as soon as possible, and in the
meantime we are still available through email at btbl at library.ca.gov .

The BARD or Braille and Audio Reading Download site is active and
patrons are encouraged to download books and magazines for playback on
the Talking Book Machine or their own third party devices, smart
phones, and tablets. Applications for new BARD accounts are being
processed daily. For more information please go to our web site:
btbl.ca.gov

To receive updates about BTBL’s status, please call for recorded
announcements at (800) 952-5666, or visit our web site: btbl.ca.gov

Thank you for your patience and understanding. – BTBL Staff
