Dear all,

Thanks to all who attended our call about safe sex as blind people
yesterday, and endless thanks to Danielle and Shelbi for helping to
make it a safe, casual environment. I have to confess that I was
incredibly nervous about putting on that type of membership call, but
the turnout was great. Either Danielle or I will send an email with
links to some resources later this week. As always, I am open to
feedback, especially since I’m hoping to go into sex ed for the
disabled after some time shaking up the field of journalism. There’s a
lot to be done there where accessibility is concerned. In both fields,
actually. Anyway, did you love the call? Hate it? How can I improve in
leading that type of event in the future? Or am I hopelessly bad at
it? What are your thoughts? Feel free to email me privately at
cricketbidleman at gmail.com. Hate-mail is okay too—I want to learn from
you.

We have no events this week, but our state convention is coming up!
It’s October 21-24, and I’ve got some cool announcements. First, the
NFB of California is generously offering scholarships, with one
specifically for STEAM students. Here’s the link to the application
form: https://www.nfbcal.org/scholarship-programs/

And, I am putting together an auction basket for state convention.
This year’s theme? International food and snacks. What are your
favorites?

We’ll be launching some fundraisers soon. Look out for an email about
CABS merchandise, with our new logo. There’s another one too, but I’m
keeping it a secret for now.

And, because convention is coming up, a quick reminder about
membership. Dues-paying members have voting privileges, and may run
for board and officer positions if eligible. They can chair or
co-chair committees, and may be called upon to plan and/or run events.
It’s only $5, and all that money goes toward door prizes,
scholarships, running events, and other things that benefit blind
students from California. I wish Netflix was that cheap… You can Venmo
@cricketbidleman $5, with CABS dues in the memo line, and I’ll add
your name to the list. This year’s dues will be good through December
31st of 2022, since we’re shifting to the model that national uses.

And that’ about it, as brought to you by your favorite fan of cinnamon
tea. It really is good—highly recommend.

Cheers,
Cricket
