Is anyone else taking the train to convention? You can catch the Amtrak from Fullerton, Santa Ana, and Anaheim, Los anngeles and ends up at old town San Diego depot. I would definitely prefer it if someone was traveling with me as there are these creeps like the serial killer in Stockton who prey on the lonely. If you are taking the amtrak to convention on the amtrak please reply to this email as, i would like to hear from you. Please simply reply to this email. on

> I totally agree with Tina Tomas. The masks I understand. As, I have seen places mandate those. Not now, as, places seem to have relaxed their Covid19 policies. However, in 2021, I was researching covid19 policies at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, california. It stated, ?all patrons must wear a mask.? ?Those who test positive for covid19 must wear a mask throughout the entirety of the football game.? That was in 2021 during the pandemic. At the time that we do packet pickups I am not able to get a ride home, and besides I definitely want to hear Mark Riccobono speak, and talk to Mark Riccobono too. It is very different when you are working the convention to when you are just a participant attending the convention. In 2017 was my first national convention, and I worked as a Spanish interpreter. This year will be my first year that I am not working during Mark Riccobono?s speech. I definitely really want to hear him speak. I have never gotten to hear him speak in person before while I am in the audience.
>
> What are covid19 boosters and vaccinations good for? I have been doubble boosted. I strongly feel that nobody must be excluded from attending in person. I also strongly feel that you must divide the seating arrangements up into these sections: vaccinated and masked: crypto.com arena required this at one point in time. Masked and negative test done in 24 hours. Masked and must stay masked during the whole duration of the convention because they have tested positive. Now, I understand that you want to keep blind people also want to participate. Can blind people do the same thing except for vote virtually? My point is that if one of us takes an on-site covid19 test and it is positive what will I do? Sit down there curl up in a corner and ball, because I absolutely would not have a ride commming. My point is those who are masked and who are up to date on their covid19 vaccinations must not be forced to go through the fires of hell. (Covid19 test. Also, if these big huge stadiums like the crypto.com have implemented this guideline. What gives us the authority to say it is not enough? They host a game every day. >> Hi Tina,
>>
>> First, there is no retribution to respectfully asking questions in our organization. I appreciate your concerns. The Covid policies are indeed lawful. We can take individual accommodation requests as needed using the registration form. It is my hope that the masking and testing policy is truly unnecessary and overly cautious. We want everyone to feel as safe as possible for this first convention back in person. Personally, I am not very worried about Covid given current conditions. That said, I also don't mind a little bit of inconvenience if it makes others feel safe and lowers the potential risk for spreading illness. My impression is that the board supports the current approach.

>> Update from the board:
>> Hello, everyone, and happy October!
>> Time is running out to register for the best NFB of California
>> convention yet! It will be held from November 3-6, in San Diego, and
>> you won't want to miss it! We will have an exhibit hall where you can
>> learn about resources and products for the blind, resolutions that
>> will help shape the future of our movement, and great programming that
>> will highlight relevant issues facing the blind today. We will also
>> have division meetings, a Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee
>> meeting, and a hospitality suite where folks can mingle and enjoy
>> being together again. We will have auction baskets and, of course,
>> door prizes! Perhaps most exciting of all will be our national
>> representative who will be none other than our own NFB President Mark
>> Riccobono! You can register and book your rooms at the Courtyard
>> Marriott in Old Town San Diego by following instructions in this link:
>> nfbcal.org/convention But be sure to do it soon because rooms are
>> going fast, and registration rates will increase after October 31.
>> Room rates are $149 per night, plus tax, and in-person registration is
>> $60. Your $60 registration fee also includes breakfast for November
>> 4-6. Banquet tickets are also $60. All in-person registrants will need
>> to provide a negative Covid test taken twenty-four hours before
>> picking up your registration packet, or else take a Covid test at the
>> hotel. Attendees will also need to wear masks during convention
>> activities. Children under the age of six do not need to register, but
>> guardians are strongly encouraged to provide a negative Covid test for
>> children under six and have them mask whenever possible.
>> For those who are unable to attend in person, we will be having a
>> virtual element to convention this year. Virtual registration is $25,
>> and it allows you to take part in most of the convention from the
>> comfort of your own homes. Virtual registrants will not be able to
>> vote on resolutions, board positions, and officers because we do not
>> yet have a reliable system to allow this, but we are working on a
>> system that will allow hybrid voting in the future and will be testing
>> this system at this year's convention.
>> Student's, don't forget to apply for our NFB of California
>> scholarship! The application is also available at
>> nfbcal.org/convention. The deadline to apply is October 15, and you
>> will need to start the application process early to give adequate time
>> to provide all necessary materials.
>> In order to make this convention happen, we heavily rely on sponsors
>> to help fund us and exhibitors to showcase their products. If you or
>> anyone you know may be interested in being either a sponsor or
>> exhibitor for our 2022 convention, you can find information about how
>> to help at nfbcal.org/convention.
>> We have board positions up for election this year, including all
>> officers (President, First Vice-President, Second Vice-President,
>> Secretary, and Treasurer) and three general board positions. If you
>> are interested in being considered for nomination by the Nominating
>> Committee, please contact Ever Lee Hairston, the chair of the

>> nominating committee meeting, which will be held on the night of
>> November 3. You need to be attending in person to run for a position
>> unless you have a documented medical reason that you must attend
>> remotely, as approved by the board.
>> I can't wait to see you all at convention this year, whether you are
>> with us in San Diego or via Zoom! Let's continue learning and building
>> the NFB of California together.
>> Sincerely,
>> Rachel Grider, 1st Vice President
>> Convention Updates
>> We are looking for volunteers to help run the hospitality suite
>> at convention. Contact Allison Depner ( adepner1425 at gmail.com) for details.
>> Scholarships: Students attending school in California should apply for
>> the NFB of California state scholarships. Visit nfbcal.org for more
>> details. There are scholarship forms in both English and Spanish.
>> Applications are due by the end of October 15th.
>> It's time for NFB of California members to start proposing resolutions
>> to be debated and voted on during our state convention November 3-6.
>> These resolutions have real power in guiding government, education and
>> commerce to improve their relationship to California's blind citizens.
>> They crystalize how our members feel today about important issues, and
>> what we want the wider world to do about them. The world has changed
>> since we last met in person. A pandemic, a contraction of blindness
>> services, new access barriers, to name a few. Add to that issues in

>> You don't need to be an expert resolution-writer to make an impact;

>> resolution that matters to you? It doesn't need to be perfect, as our
