Happy 86th Anniversary to the AbilityOne Program! 🥳 🇺🇸

On June 25, 1938, President Roosevelt signed the Wagner-O'Day act- a law requiring the federal government to purchase goods and services provided by agencies that employ people who are blind. Congress established the Committee on Purchases of Blind-Made Products, which later become known as the U.S. AbilityOne Commission. The passing of this law was significant in helping blinded veterans and other Americans with visual impairment become viable members of the workforce and gain (or re-gain) employment and financial independence.

Over eight decades later, LightHouse is proud to work with National Industries for the Blind and other affiliated NAEPBs who share our mission to promote the independence, equity, and employment of people who are blind. We pride ourselves on our production of safe, eco-friendly cleaning products which are now on the AbilityOne Federal Procurement List!

Just in time for this momentous anniversary, LightHouse is also hosting our 2nd annual LightHouse Day! In June 2023, the City of San Francisco honored LightHouse with a Proclamation for our commitment to promoting independence, equity, and employment to the blind and low vision community. This year we are continuing the tradition by honoring LightHouse ECO with a LightHouse Day Declaration by the City of Alameda and a happy hour reception to follow.
