> BOLSA CHICA HIKE AND BEACH DAY -
> Saturday, August 21, 2021
>
> 18000 CA-1, Huntington Beach, CA 92648
>
>
>
> Join Hearts For Sight (HFS), Sierra Club and Inspiring Connection Outdoors (ICO) to our hike at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach, CA. Our original hike plans to Sycamore Canyon Cove have been rescheduled to another day due to unforeseen circumstances.
>
> The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is a 1300-acre coastal nature preserve in Huntington Beach, Orange County. Here you will find open water, mudflats, salt and freshwater marsh, coastal dunes, and seabird nesting islands. More than 200 species of birds have been found at Bolsa Chica. It is a pleasant walk through this beautiful nature preserve which we will share with various birds, small animals and reptiles. A docent will meet us there and tell us a little bit about the preserve before we start our 2 mile walk through it.
>
> After our walk, we will get back on the bus to cross the street to the Bolsa Chica State Beach. There we will cool off by wading in the water of the Pacific Ocean and eating our lunch provided by Hearts for Sight.
>
> What to know: ICO and HFS will be providing a bus to and from Los Angeles to Bolsa Chicca State Beach. The first bus pick-up location will be in Alhambra as Almansor Park located at 800 S. Almansor St., Alhambra, CA. Please meet next to the tennis courts. The bus will be leaving Almansor Park at 8:15am sharp.
>
> A second bus pickup is in discussion, possibly in Cerritos or Artesia. The exact pickup location and further details will be released before Friday. This event will be an all-day experience. Expect to arrive before 8:00am if you are getting picked up by the bus in Alhambra and 8:30am if you are getting picked up from the second location. The bus will be back in town before 5:00pm. Access riders, arrange to be picked up from Almansor after 5:00pm.
> What to bring:
>
> Please bring your walking shoes, enough water for the hike, sunscreen, your towel, and swim shorts.
>
> Only guide and service dogs allowed. Bring any medications you may need during a day hike, including inhalers and injectors.
>
>
> HFS is adhering to all public safety protocols during these times, so ADVANCE RSVP IS A MUST. We are limiting our hiking group to 30, including both blind / visually impaired participants and sighted guides. First come, first serve. We are also encouraging folks to bring their own sighted guide for now or someone from the same household. If you do not need assistance or do not have a guide, please let us know ahead of time so we can connect you with a guide. If you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 2 weeks, or awaiting your results, please just stay home. This trip may include both vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Mask wearing is optional for those who are vaccinated.
> SIGHTED GUIDES NEEDED. As interest in our hikes for the Visually Impaired have increased, so has our need for sighted guides. Please spread the word so that every VIP gets their own guide. No experience necessary. Just be willing to help and we will teach you everything you need to know.
>
> If you are interested in volunteering as a sighted guide or to RSVP, please be sure to contact Racquel Decipeda via email hearts4sight at gmail.com or call 818-457-1482.
>
> This hike is cosponsored by Hearts For Sight and the ICO / Sierra Club. Participants must have signed liability waivers for both organizations. If this is your first time joining HFS activities / events, please read, sign and bring this release of liability form. You may also access the audio version of the HFS waver form.
>
> For each hike, please register and complete the SC waiver and access the audio version of the SC waver here.
>
> We look forward to having you join us!
