>> Hiking at Topanga Canyon Trippet Ranch
>>
>> When: Saturday, March 19, 2022
>> Where: 20828 Entrada Rd, Topanga, CA 90290
>>
>> Join Hearts For Sight (HFS), Sierra Club (SC), and Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) as we explore a new hiking trail! Topanga Canyon, in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains, is one of the most beautiful hiking spots in Los Angeles. Trippet Ranch, where we will be going, is a popular entry point into the trails at Topanga. Early springtime is the best time as the flowers are in bloom and the new undergrowth makes the hillsides green. You will find oak trees, California bay laurel, sage, lupine, and many other plants. It is the historical home of the Chumash/ Tongva Indigenous people, followed by the Spanish missionaries, the Spanish ranchers and then the early American ranchers. It now belongs to the State of California for all of us to enjoy.
>>
>> Although the nature center will be closed, there will be a docent there to tell us a little about the history and natural surroundings of Topanga. We will hike for about 3 miles before sitting down at the benches to eat our lunch and enjoy each other's company. At the beginning of the hike there will be a little hill climbing. We will also be coming down that same hill at the end, but the rest of the hike is level. Everyone is welcomed on this hike.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>> This is a Sierra Club ICO-sponsored hike, and we will arrive there in a bus. Space in the bus is limited, so RSVP is necessary. First come; first served.
>>
>> The first bus pick up location is at Almansor Park in Alhambra at 8:00 AM. There will be a second stop at Balboa Sports Complex in Encino at 9:00 AM. We will then proceed to Topanga Canyon State Park and will be back to Encino at 3:00 PM and Alhambra at 4:00 PM. Addresses for the pick up locations will be shared when you RSVP. For those who have access to transportation can meet us directly at Topanga at the address provided above or join us on the bus.
>>
>> Wear comfortable shoes, layers of clothing because it could be hot or cold or both, and a hat, with a day pack big enough to carry everything. Loaner equipment available; just ask.
>>
>> Bring at least two bottles of water. A small lunch will be provided, but we encourage you to bring snacks and lunch especially if you have diet restrictions.
>>
>> Only seeing-eye guide dogs allowed.
>>
>> Although public safety protocols have loosened up, HFS, SC and ICO still advise that you wear masks (especially in the bus). If you have tested positive for COVID-19, awaiting your results from the test or feel ill in any way, please just stay home.
>>
>> SIGHTED GUIDES NEEDED. As interest in our hikes for the Visually Impaired continues to increase, so has our need for sighted guides. Please spread the word so that every VIP gets their own guide. No experience necessary. Just be willing to help and we will teach you everything you need to know.
>>
>> This hike is cosponsored by Hearts For Sight, Sierra Club and ICO. Participants must sign liability waivers for both organizations as required by our insurances. Waiver forms will be provided when you RSVP.
>>
>> If you are interested in volunteering as a sighted guide or to RSVP, please be sure to contact Racquel Decipeda via email hearts4sight at gmail.com or call 818-457-1482.
>>
>> We hope to see you and we look forward to another adventure at Topanga Canyon Trippet Ranch with you!
