Hi Nancy,

Yes, assisting with distributing lunches will be great. It’s okay if you cannot make it at 7. Like I said, it’s more for the purpose of orienting people that have never been to Braille and do not have experience with guiding blind and visually impaired folks.

Just check in with Joseph when you get there. He is helping me as Volunteer coordinator for the day. If you cannot find him, call me at 818-770-0182 or find me instead.

Thank you so much.

Hello Racquel,

Jon and I would like to volunteer to distribute lunches to the attendees. However, 7 AM will not work for us because we have our Access pick up at that time. If this is an issue, please let us know.

In addition, we can volunteer anywhere else if necessary. I know there might be some people who will require assistance from someone who speaks Spanish. We would be happy to help with that task as well.

Thank you

Best,
Nancy

Good morning everyone!

Are we all excited yet? This could be our biggest Best in Tech so far with 460 people pre-registered. And there are some calling wanting to pre-register still.

At the last chapter meeting, some of you expressed interest in volunteering. With nearly 500 expected guests we would definitely appreciate your assistance. So I put together some of the volunteer tasks or duties that we would need assistance with. Please let me know what or which task would you like to help with so I would have an idea ahead of time and I can share it with the person I requested to help me and be Volunteer Coordinator for the day. You will be volunteering / working along with 20 students from the Santa Monica College and some staff and volunteers from Braille Institute.

We have asked of all interested volunteers to come at 7:00 am. Braille set up an orientation for all volunteers to orient everyone where workshops are going to be held, how to sight-guide a blind / visually impaired person (for those who do not have experience sight-guiding), and in general assignment of who will be doing certain tasks and duties. If 7AM is too early for you, no worries, just let me know. There will be plenty of stuff you can help with throughout the day.

Here are the tasks and positions we need help with. Please let me know which one you would like to assist with.

Volunteer Duties
Best in Tech 2018

Welcoming and greeting attendees at the lobby
Escorting attendees to workshops rooms and to the cafeteria where vendors and main presentation are set up
Checking in folks that pre-registered – you will have a clipboard with names of pre-registered folks and you need to check off their names on the list
Handing them their badges
Registering walk-ins
Helping attendee find a seat
Collecting door prizes from vendors
Distribute lunches to the vendors
Distributing lunches to the attendees
Assist someone that might need assistance in browsing the vendors’ booths
Assist someone that might need assistance locating the back area where Access will pick up

Some other needs might come up during the day, so please be patient with us if you will be asked to assist. I’m just thinking of minor stuff here and there, so please don’t be alarmed.

Thank you so much in advance for your help and your time. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
