Hi Nancy and Chapter members,

It would be wonderful if every chapter member was able to purchase a gift for Aliyah. Unfortunately not everyone can manage that.

Because of the ending date of the application was a week before our November meeting it was hard for the committee to meet and then decide who would and when to call. Phone tag happened with the committee and the Mom. That is why it was not mentioned at our November 2 meeting. We still have four weeks until our Holiday party on December 14.

There is still time for someone to plan a shopping date for purchasing gifts.

As I mentioned one of us on the committee will make another call about if she might have any Disney dolls and what size shoe and whether she prefers dresses or pants to wear.

At one of our chapter meetings earlier this year the chapter had a long discussion about the Adopt A Child program and it was decided to go back to the original idea of each of us giving a gift because the one big gift cost was more then was collected from members after the holiday party.

Warmly, Joy

Hello,

Just wondering, is it being discouraged that members purchase a gift for the child individually if they choose to do so or is it suggested to purchase a gift as a group only? I know in the past members have bought presents for the child besides what the chapter was giving. I mean, if they are saying the little girl needs clothing, it would be really nice if she received more than just one gift. Plus kids get very excited when they get lots of presents! I’m sure the parents would appreciate it as well since kids at that age outgrow their clothing very quickly. Also, do we know what size shoes she wears?

If I could make a suggestion. I think in the future it would be great if we could learn more about the child that is chosen at the last chapter meeting before our holiday party and decide what we are going to gift as it has been done in the past.

This would allow us members to decide if we want to pitch in as a group to buy something together and perhaps even plan a day to shop for such gift.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Nancy

Hi David,

You have asked some great questions. For right now just stick to long sleeve shirts, jackets, sweaters or sweat shirts. Please remember just try to stick with one gift per person. You could place a gift receipt for the item in the bottom of the bag or box.

We do not know if she already has any Disney dolls yet. But, what girl wants just one princess!

I do know that she lives with her parents and grandparent(s) so, I am assuming space is limited. One of us will get back to you on this list.

Warmly, Joy

Hello fellow chapter members,

I am pleased to announce that our finalist for our 2019 Adopt A Child program is Aliyah Flores She is five years old and lives in La Puente. She is in Kindergarten at the Blind Children’s Center school in Los Angeles. Aliyah loves Disney Princess’s, finger painting, acting in her made up story’s. Helping her Mom and Grandmother in the kitchen and she is good about putting away her toys at the end of the day. She has no siblings. Her favorite color is Purple. Her clothing size is 5 T and she does need clothes for this Winter.

Please reply back to this email when you have made your decision as to what you would like to give to Aliyah. It is not necessary for everyone to give a gift to Aliyah because it is wonderful if several members went together to give a gift to her. Your presence will be just as important because it will show her family that we can have fun, socialize with each other and pay for our own evening out!

If you have any other questions please call either myself (818.510.2353) or Betsy (323.300.0985).

Remember our chapter treasurery will be paying for the family dinners.

Warmly, Joy
