I want to introduce to you our chosen adopted child this year, 2016.<br>
The committee had reviewed the applications we received and had<br>
decided that our chapter is going to adopt Jocelyn Riddle-Serrano.<br>
Maria Acosta from Braille Institute is the one that referred this<br>
candidate to us. Here is the information we gathered about Jocelyn’s<br>
Christmas wish list:<br>

Jocelyn’s mother, Brianna, said that the child needs clothes. And as<br>
far as toys, she would like to have the Harry Potter wand collections.<br>
Here is some information we gather:<br>

Clothes size 12 in girls and her favorite color is gold<br>
<br>
Shoe size is 3 ½ in children<br>
<br>
The Harry Potter wand collections can be bought from<br>
Barnes & Noble in Burbank<br>
<br>
Maria provided me a link for this wand collections and it costs<br>
$159.00 with six wands from different characters. But when I called<br>
the store, I was told that this one is more for collections or for<br>
display only, not much really something you can play with. They have<br>
other wands in individual boxes that are priced from $20 and up that<br>
light up at the tip and makes sounds. Given Jocelyn’s age, I’m<br>
thinking she may still want to play with these. Or I can ask the<br>
mother which she thinks Jocelyn is wishing for. My thoughts and<br>
suggestion is we can contribute in like what we did in previous years<br>
and get the $160 wand collection if this is what Jocelyn wants. But if<br>
she still likes to play with them, then we get her a couple or three<br>
of them in individual boxes. What do you folks think? If we decide to<br>
do this, I can volunteer to go to Barnes & Noble to purchase whatever<br>
we decide.<br>

Joy Stigile also mentioned that she was looking into getting her the<br>
Harry Potter books in Braille since our Jocelyn is a braille reader. I<br>
will double check again what she already has so we do not end up<br>
getting her something she already has.<br>

For those who enjoy shopping for kids and may want to get her clothes<br>
or shoes feel free to do so. Please just let us know in this thread<br>
what you decided to do.<br>

We also asked the mom what’s in her wish list for Christmas. According<br>
to Maria, she thinks Brianna like's Kylie Jenner's make up, the<br>
Holiday collection for Christmas. Do any of you familiar with this<br>
brand? Since Jocelyn is an only child, can we or should we consider<br>
getting her mother a gift?<br>

Here is additional information about Jocelyn to get to know her a bit more:<br>

Our adopted child this year is Jocelyn Riddle-Serrano<br>
<br>
9 years old born on February 4, 2007<br>
<br>
She is on 2nd grade and she goes to Van Ness Elementary School<br>
<br>
They live in Sylmar. Her mother’s name is Brianna Suzanne Riddle. She<br>
is an only child and lives with her mother, grandpa and grandma and<br>
great grandmother.<br>
<br>
Her cause of blindness is Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. Optic Nerve<br>
Hypoplasia (ONH) is the under-development or absence of the optic<br>
nerve combined with possible brain and endocrine abnormalities. It is<br>
also known as Septo-Optic Dysplasia or DeMorsier's Syndrome.<br>
<br>
Jocelyn’s hobbies are reading Harry Potter books and watching movies.<br>
She is also musically talented, playing the drums and part of the<br>
Academy of Music School for the Blind.<br>
<br>
Her mother is a single mom. The committee thought it would be nice to<br>
adopt Jocelyn so we can hopefully help her and her mother as she grows<br>
and they could probably use assistance in finding resources and<br>
information as she gets older.<br>
