In 2015, at our state convention, we passed a resolution to take steps to sunset the board. We made some significant progress lessening the jurisdiction of the board last year. However, we have more work to do to sunset the board.

I am asking chapter presidents and their chapters to send letters to legislative representatives, to make calls, and to atend hearings where possible. The hearings are held at the state Capitol in Sacramento, near the Amtrak station. For those who can't attend hearings, please write letters and make phone calls. I will provide talking points and sample letters that you should personalize in a second email.

In this email, I'm asking everyone to attend a Business and Professions Committee Meeting on April 25 in Sacramento. It will be held from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the state Capitol. Ifyou can make it or would like further information, please call me at 415-218-5862. We need people there to support our position. Numbers really count; we want the committee to know we want this board to sunset.

I will provide further information in another email. In short, we are asking the Assembly Business and Professions Committee to oppose AB 1705, a bill that would extend the California State Board of Guide Dogs for the Blind for another four years. We oppose AB 1705. We want the board to sunset on January 1, 2018, as is currently provided in Business and Professions Code section 7200.

My next email will include a sample letter to personalize, talking points for making calls to committee members, and committee member names, email addressess and phone numbers.

Please share this information with your chapters, friends and guide dog users..

Thank you.

--
SHANNON L.
