It is a time to recognize, understand and celebrate the contributions of Black Americans in the United States. During the month of January, we observed the life and contributions of one of America’s greatest men, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Next month, we will celebrate Women’s history Month where we recognize the contributions of the American woman. Ever Lee Hairston is a Black blind woman who through her leadership and sacrifices, has demonstrated leadership in her contributions to our country’s civil rights struggle for Black Americans and blind Americans. She marched with Dr. King in the civil rights movement of the early sixties and became a leader in the organized blind movement when she joined the National Federation of the Blind in the late 1980s. <br><br>We invite you to join the Black Elected Leaders as we hear about Ms. Hairston’s time in the Civil rights Movement and in the National Federation of the Blind. We want to know what leadership skills she developed during her time with Dr. King, and how did she apply those skills in the blindness movement. How did she conquer discrimination that she faced as a Black blind woman?
