Yep,
When I respond to these lists I'm under the presumption that everyone
is using JAWS. Which is a bad presumption to make.
The feedback that I heard is that Lotus Symphony works with JAWS. I
tried it myself with VoiceOver and experienced the same behaviour as
you.
