I think I am anxious to move to win7 but not on my xp machines.

It gives a few reasons you might not want to upgrade from XP or Vista but
you are not asking about that, t least not for the most part.  You are
asking if there is any reason to upgrade from XP to Vista instead of windows
7.  There is no good reason to do so in general.  I can't say that no one
has a reason not to upgrade to Windows 7 but in general, there is no reason
to upgrade to Vista instead of Windows 7.
