[nfbcs] Word Freezing on Certain Files

Unfortunately JAWS freezes completely. Bringing up the Task Manager is of
no use, because I don't get speech anywhere. One common factor of the files
that freeze on me are files that are sent to me that have been written using
Open Office. Even though the file extension is fine, I wonder if Open
Office inserts something that throws MS Word. Who knows...

I have had Word lock up on me many times. It has nothing to do
with jaws.
It happens to me most often when I am copying text off a web page to
multiple word files. The 2 files and word and a list of ~files
(probably
intermediate files for word) are frozen.
To fix this problem (without rebooting), I hit
control+shift+escape to call
up the task manager. You many have to do this several times as
there are
very few free cycles.
Once in the task manager jaws will speak freely again as it is
not trying to
interact with Word. Just go to the applications tab and you may see
multiple copies of word running, both of which are frozen.
Select one and
hit endTask. Arrow also to the other one and do the same.
Note you will
have to confirm that you really want to do that as you might lose data.
Then you wait.
Sorry, I never found a better way short of rebooting.
Good luck.

Dear all,
For some reason when I try to open certain Word files, JAWS freezes. It
does not happen on all files, and I have no real way of knowing
what inside
the file triggers this behavior. The rest of the computer
works well. It
is only JAWS that refuses to talk until I've Alt tabbed around
and hit Alt
F4 a few times until I get a message that Word is not
responding. So is it
Word or JAWS, and if anyone's ever seen this behavior, any
tips? I'm using
Office 2003 with JAWS 11. Thanks.
