[nfbcs] buying online and product pictures

Hi -- if you find out a better way than calling customer service or a
sighted friend, let me know.
I often get only reluctant if any help from customer service people, as they
are busy and supposed to only talk to people who are ordering. It amazes me
that even when I get someone to give a good description of an item, I order
and then am often amazed that the person either didn't tell me something
really important, or else described it completely opposite of the way it
was. Take color for example. I ask if it is dark green and they say yes,
dark green. I get it in the mail and it's pastel green. Same with other
attributes. I consider myself lucky when I get someone who will take hold
and try to help me understand what I'm getting.
Good luck and happy shopping.

Subject: [nfbcs] buying online and product pictures

Like a lot of people, I am buying more stuff online. I am finding a lot
of instances where a website's "description" consists of a picture and a
bit of hyperbole--"The greatest, most convenient whatsit ever!"--then a
general description, if I'm lucky. Sometimes I pick up the phone and give
them a call, but usually that only gets me someone reading the same
description I'm reading.
Anyone have a solution to this problem? Other than catching that mythical
sighted person all us blind people are supposed to have instant access to
at all times? Although I wonder if the pictures are all that helpful,
either.
Tracy
