[nfbcs] JAWS and Navigating Office 2003

I don't use JAWS, but here are two things which have tripped me up:

In Excel, you can't navigate from cell to cell if Scroll Lock is turned on. Since I have defined it to be the Window-Eyes equivalent of Say All, this happens to me once in a while.

Here at the Library of Congress, many of our PC's are loaded with a standard set of software, including programs and settings used for international cataloging. So once in a while, if I hit ctrl-shift-T to read the title bar of the window in focus, my keyboard and fonts switch to Hebrew, a right-to-left language. This messes up Window-Eyes's ability to read, and especially to edit. This is one case where Microsoft's keyboard handlers can override even a hotkey.

Just thought I'd mention these things.

Subject: [nfbcs] JAWS and Navigating Office 2003

Dear all,

Recently I've been experiencing an interesting issue with JAWS and Word and Excel. In Word, if I am editing a document and back track to read the text either character by character or word by word, JAWS will freeze up. I can get it to talk again after using Up or Down arrow to read again, but the problem has quickly become something of an irritation. Also, in Excel, JAWS will randomly freeze up when I am simply reading cell by cell using all four arrows. I have not been able to determine a specific reason for why this is happening. I suppose I could lose my place in order to get JAWS to start reading again in Word, but navigating around spreadsheets has become impossible. As the Subject line says, I am using Office 2003 on an XP system. I've switched between JAWS 10 and JAWS 11, both latest updates.
I've also tried repairing Office and ensuring my display settings are optimized. Any ideas?

Best,

Joe
