You might try captioning the tables:
http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_caption.asp and
http://www.w3schools.com/html/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_tables2 I am
not sure how this changes the visual presentation, but when I hit the
table with the screen reader it reads the caption first then the
number of rows and columns.  You can use styling to change the
appearance and probably can set the visibility or other attribute to
hide the text.
