I agree. I have used VIPRE and like it. But the last versions were a bit
more intrusive than I wish, causing things like arrowing down through a file
list to slow down unacceptably (VIPRE scans files as you point to them, not
just as you open them).

I am still using Microsoft Security Essentials. It is not that Microsoft is
not recommending it. It is rather that they are de-emphasizing this in terms
of a long term future strategy. The next one I would suggest (which you have
to pay for) is VIPRE Antivirus from Counterspy, which is the one recommended
by Serotek.
