[nfbcs] Ideas for creating accessible UML diagrams

Hey all,
I am in a CS course right now where we are doing UML diagrams. We are creating them as well as interpreting them. We are also required to use  a piece of software to create them in the future. I can't think of what this software is called right now, but what strategies have you all used to deal with these diagrams?
Is there an accessible piece of software for creating these?
