What type of software development are you wanting to study? There are
numerous different programming languages, including some that are specific
to a certain area (web or desktop) or operating system (Windows or Apple).
What type of computers have you used before, and what kind of assistive
technology do you need? Regardless of what you study, some colleges require
courses that use Linux, so you will either need to use Linux or set up an
SSH program, such as Cygwin.
Per putting a virtual machine on a laptop to have a second operating system,
if you use JAWS, you are going to need a laptop with a huge amount of ram,
at least 16 GB or a custom made one with 32 GB.
