Sure, but you can get a level of abstraction if you want to. It depends really on how you structure your notation and what you need it for.

While PlantUML does not support ER diagrams specifically, class diagrams can get you very close to them. However, if you don’t absolutely require a graphical representation, I would suggest representing the database design with a text-based notation.

There are some LaTeX packages that might be useful as well, but I guess you’ll need some sighted assistance in making the result acceptable for sighted users.

I need to design a database. Are there any quick reliable methods of doing this? So far, I have used plant uml. However, it is slow and somewhat problematic because it renders itself useless for database design. If there is something different, I will consider using it since there is no longer time to experiment with preprocessing, and a simple 6 table database shouldn't have to take 1 week of design work to finish.
