This is true, but your Chrome might be crashing. It's apparently happening
to a few of us. My solution to stop Chrome from crashing is to go to full
screen. If you need to go to the address bar, you have to get out of full
screen, type your address, and go back into full screen. I hope someone has
a less convoluted solution but I sure haven't found one.

How is the PDF file being closed? If it's opening up as another window or
tab in Chrome, then a Control+w should just close that window or tab and not
all of Chrome.
