[NFBCS] Disney Plus Not Accessible to the Blind

Hello everyone,
This is surprising considering that the NFB's Travel and Tourism
Division worked closely with Disney to make some of their attractions more
blind-friendly. Disney also undertook a major overhall of its Website so it
complies with accessibility standards. I tried the new and improved Disney
and Disneyworld Websites and they worked very well with Jaws.
The NFB Travel and Tourism's contact was a gentleman named Mark
Jones. If Cheryl Echevaria is on this list she would know who I'm talking
about.Mr. Jones may or may not still be with Disney.
Given the work the NFB did with Disney in the past it's sad to hear
about the difficulties folks are having with accessing the Disney+ Website.
At least it works in the Apple Environment. Here's hoping a version for
Apple TV will be released in the near future. I believe versions are
supposed to be made available for Apple TV, Google TV, Kindle Fire, and
Roku. Let's hope Disney takes swift action to insure that the Disney+
Website works in all environments. All the best.

I am the person who brought this to Curtis's attention. I just tried it
again with Crome and couldn't get anywhere. I do not have a Mac computer.

I was able to navigate the whole process on a MacOS computer with Safari and
VoiceOver. One trick I found is that when you land on one of the fields
entering a tab key will activate it if it is not activated.
I can't speak to JAWS or NVDA the Disney plus app is not become available
for Apple TV at this point. So I can check that.
I would suggest that everyone reload the page again to try this as they seem
to have made some changes literally within 30 minutes of Curtis' original
email.

displayed on the screen to speech or braille. This software is used on
Windows computers (e.g., JAWS for Windows or NVDA) or on Apple Macintosh
computers (VoiceOver). In the case of a Windows system, browsers such as
Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and/or Microsoft Internet Explorer are the
browsers that are used. In the case of a Macintosh computer or a product
running iOS, the Safari browser is what a blind person would use.

information that Disney Plus asks for to get them signed up-information such
as one's email address, credit card number, etc. Simply put, the forms used
on the Disney Plus website are not adhering to the accessibility guidelines
promulgated by the Worldwide Web Consortium-guidelines that are widely
distributed and well known throughout the industry (refer to WCAG 2.0 and
2.1).
