[NFBCS] Disney Plus Update

Hi,

I was also able to login to Disney with IE 11. The question I have is how to
access audio description on the service. I have gone through settings but
the only option is displaying the service in English. Does anyone know if
there is audio described content on the channel.
I have watched the Marvel movies on Netflix with this feature, but it does
not do the same on Disney.

Thanks.

Daniel

Hello Curtis and everyone,

We're using Internet Explorer 11 here. Other than selections not
playing the Disney Plus Website works fine.

Greetings:

Regarding Internet Explorer, anyone who is using this browser today should
already be running Internet Explorer 11. People using earlier versions of
Internet Explorer prior to 11 oftentimes receive the message that the
browser is not compatible with the website and is therefore not supported.
Hence, I speculate that most people who have received such a message have,
out of necessity, already upgraded (if that is the right word) to Internet
Explorer 11.

I have observed that the large corporations which have made the commitment
to accessibility have tended to ensure that their stuff works with Internet
Explorer first because, at one time, Internet Explorer was the only browser
that the majority of blind people were using on the Windows platform. Blind
Windows users with a strong knowledge of how things work have tended to move
away from Internet Explorer in favor of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome
depending on which works better with a specific web application.

Windows would appear to be the only operating system used by blind people
where we find it expedient to have available more than one browser (i.e.,
Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome). On the Macintosh or
the iPhone/iPad, we can choose to use Safari, Google Chrome, or both (if
that is what we want to do), and I have not yet heard anyone reporting that
a particular web application works better with one browser over another.

It is interesting to observe that Microsoft has not yet announced any
specific moves to eliminate Internet Explorer from Windows 10 in favor of
its Edge browser. I would be interested to know if any blind user of Windows
has adopted Edge as his/her primary browser (notice I didn't mention Edge
earlier in this email). I suspect that if Microsoft does remove Internet
Explorer from Windows 10 (perhaps in a future major update) that there will
be some yelling and screaming from this community-particularly from those
non-technical users who have not yet made the move to use other browsers on
the Windows platform.

I advise anyone who uses Windows to ensure that multiple browsing programs
are available for routine use, and I strongly recommend both Mozilla Firefox
and Google Chrome at this juncture.

Cordially,

Curtis Chong

With the discontinuation of support for all versions of IE prior to 11 fast
approaching, and the updated lifecycle policy for IE 11 indicating a soon
disregard/abandonment strategy for IE 11, lack of support for IE should not
be too surprising. Appreciate your thoughts/experience. If possible, could
you identify issues in chrome, much like Curtis did initially? Having a
clear understanding of others experiences can significantly improve our
ability to collectively act in this regard.

Thanks,

michael

Subject: [NFBCS] Disney Plus Update

[EXTERNAL EMAIL] WARNING: Be wise. Be cautious.

Good morning again everyone,

I just tried Disney Plus in all three browsers on our

desktop and got pretty much the same results as I did last night. The winner

is sstill Mozilla Firefox with Internet Explorer a close second. Both IE and

Firefox allow you to subscribe independently and sign in to your account

without the need for sighted assistance. One thing that surprised me is that

once I subscribed and signed in to my account I remained signed in. Usually

you're prompted to check a checkbox if you want to remain signed into your

account, but this is not the case with Disney Plus.

All works as it should when using Firefox. A problem is

encountered when you attempt to watch a movie using Internet Explorer. When

the "Play" button is pressed you're taken to the screen where you view the

selection in question. I just tried playing Lady And The Tramp first using

IE and then with Firefox. When "Play" was pressed in IE instead of the movie

starting a box appeared with the words "Post play" that Jaws was able to

read. Since this is not necessarily an accessibility issue I would think

that other Disney enthusiasts attempting to view selections in Internet

Explorer would have encountered this incompatibility and Disney Streaming

should be getting earfulls by now.

Firefox on the other hand is a champ where Disney Plus is

concerned. When I started Lady And The Tramp it began playing at once.

Here's hoping this additional information will better assist us when we

notify Disney Streaming of the accessibility issues blind people are

encountering when attempting to use Disney Plus in various Web Browsers and

apps. All the best.
