[NFBCS] JAWS and Todo Process

Hi,

It appears I have somehow lost the email that replied to this thread. It is possible, I suppose, that the new volume adjustment utility might be the explanation for the issue. I am running JAWS v2021.2012.57 on Win10 v2004 64-bit. I know this won’t help a lot of people on here but I have attached screenshots that should demonstrate the behaviour I am outlining and I have attached the text of the virtualised windows, as someone on another list has informed me that they are struggling to replicate the process I have outlined.

Virtualised text of the “adjust system volume” Window:

---Begin---

Volume Mixer - Speakers (2- Realtek(R) Audio)

Device Applications

Speakers System Sounds TODO: <File JAWS for

description> Windows FSSynt...

---End---

Screenshot of same window:

Text of task manager window:

---Begin---

Task Manager

File Options View

Processes Performance App history Startup Users Details Services

Name Status CPU Memory Disk Network

Apps (5)

JAWS Home Use 0.1% 58.6 MB 0 MB/s 0 Mbps

TODO: <File description> 0% 1.8 MB 0 MB/s 0 Mbps

...

---End---

Screenshot of same:

I know it might seem like a bit of an unnecessarily pedantic observation; however, it is a little disconcerting when potentially unknown apps and processes happen to exist and are leaving trails of their existence in different places, when one does not always know why they are there and what they are doing, even if they might not be using up very much if any RAM at all. It would be good if an adequate explanation could be provided, or otherwise I really think someone should fix this. I’m guessing it’s probably just something that’s been mistakenly missed with naming conventions when switching from development to production.

Regards,

Nathaniel

Subject: JAWS and Todo Process

Hi,

Has anyone else noticed when using JAWS 2021 that there is a process called “todo” running along side FS apps? It shows up in the adjust system volume dialog is invoked from the Windows control panel and the file location in Task Manager reveals that it is located in the Freedom Scientific directory where exacutables are usually located.

Anyone know what this is all about? An internet search hasn’t revealed anything.

I understand what “todo” usually means from a developer’s standpoint but I do not understand what it means for the end-user in this instance. Is it something left over from the beta release? If so then this may make a certain amount of sense.

Thanks,

Nathaniel
