Although I see that you have an answer regarding closing down JAWS, it might be worth trying the following. After you switch back to Windows, just press the CTRL key several times and possibly JAWS will reset the status. If that doesn't work try doing the same thing with the WINDOWS key, and even try the ALT key. If you find something that works, you may be able to quickly press whichever key seems to straighten things out without needing to press all of them when this happens again. This could be faster than restarting JAWS.

If you have a shortcut key to start JAWS such as ALT + CTRL + J, try restarting JAWS with your shortcut key without closing JAWS first. You may also find that to be a fast way to get things back in sync with a little less work.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Subject: [NFBCS] Unix and Linux Question

Hi Everyone,

I am taking an Unix and Linux class in the coming spring semester. I am
trying to figure out the screen reader Orca, and I have found out that it is
quite similar to Jaws. I am using a virtual machine (VM. The keyboard short
cut for switch between the VM and my regular machine is CTL and Windows key.
The issue that I have is every time when I switch from VM to my regular
machine Jaws thinks that I am press either the control or the Windows key.
However if I figured out how to restart Jaws, then everything is fixed. I
was wondering is there a way to shut down Jaws besides ault f4, on the task
bar, and minimize the windows and hit J and X to exit Jaws? I tried all of
these, and they do not work, because it thinks one of the keys been pushed.
I also tried to refresh the screen, it still does not work.

Thanks all,

Amy
