Don't even remotely attempt that you can make SPSS accessible by scripting.
A number of people worked with IBM about eight years ago in an attempt to
make it usable. There is too much from the underlying code that would have
to be done for it to work. There just haven't been enough of a public
outcry for the company to put forth the effort. The most accessible version
was using SPSS version 21 and JAWS version 14.
I already knew how to use "R", SAS, and Python and still could not get SPSS
to do what I needed on my own.

I agree. I did scripting, but what I am really talking about is when JAWS
gives you nothing, you need someone to point out the button, the box, where
to get the text. I do not mean to downplay the beauty of scripting, but you
are right that it can be difficult and at the same time rewarding.

Gary,

Even our "state expert" failed at completing the job of scripting a program
for call center employment!
I didn't really know anything about scripting a year ago.
It's amazing what someone can learn on their own when you're under the gun
to make a program work!
Bryan

Scripting is not easy unless you are accustomed to doing it. Even if you
were the best script writer, if you aren't getting anything, you'll need
initial help: where is that button in terms of pixel position, what is it
called, and a whole lot more. I echo in the strongest terms that the human
reader is sometimes essential, and although I want independence, I want more
to get along in the world and consider interdependence one way of doing
that.

Subject: [NFBCS] Question About Statistics Program

Someone posted this to our Missouri state list. I thought some of you might
be able to share insight on the situation. Thanks much all.

Good evening everyone,

I am working with a gentleman that is currently taking a statistics course
at a local university. The program used for the practical portion is
IBMSPSS. He is using JAWS 2022 on Windows 11. The program will open but
has no interactivity. Using OCR, I can tell that there is something there,
but I'm not sure of any methods to gain interaction. I did a basic search
for JAWS scripts, but I came up empty. I will continue to look but thought
I would tap into the networks I have available.

First, is there anyone on here that has used this program for either school
or professionally that would have some direction for me on what I should be
looking at? Second, has anyone on here had experience with accessing these
types of scripts that could provide direction? I'm looking primarily for an
already designed script that that I can drag and drop. If someone has
suggestions on how to develop the script, I would need a very simple
explanation of how to accomplish it. This would be a whole new arena that
I'm not entirely sure I'm ready for.

Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions or directions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much,

Roger
