Dr. Stacy Branham is a friend of mine and does great research concerning people with disabilities. She was one of the advisors of a blind friend and mentee of mine that earned his Ph.D. in Human Centered Computing a couple of years ago as well.

Bob, you fit in this category. I think you should do this one. Who couldn’t use $40 more than they had before?

Please share this study with blind senior citizens and their friends.

My name is Isabela Figueira, and I am a PhD Student and Lead Researcher from the Informatics Department at the University of California, Irvine. My faculty advisor is Dr. Stacy Branham. I am recruiting participants for a research study about the experiences of blind older adults who use smartphones. This study may help us to better understand the accessibility challenges and availability of resources when acquiring and using smartphones.

You are eligible to participate in this study if you identify as blind or visually impaired, are 60 years of age or older, have and use a smartphone, are an English speaker, and currently reside in the United States.

The study involves an audio-recorded interview over the phone or Zoom or a similar teleconferencing system. The interview will last approximately 1 hour.

You will be paid $40 for your participation following the hour-long interview via an Amazon gift card or similar method.

If you participate in this study, there is no anticipated direct benefit. However, we anticipate that the findings from this study may increase awareness about accessibility and improve the accessibility of mobile devices.

If you are interested in participating in this study, please contact me, Isabela Figueira, at i.figueira at uci.edu <mailto:i.figueira at uci.edu> or ‪949-346-4851.
