[NFBCS] Online PDF questions

Good morning Tracy:

Assuming you are, in fact, using Adobe Acrobat DC (verify with INSERT+Q),
there is not much that can be done for words that run together. When you
activate a link to open a PDF online, you need to be sure that it is really
opening in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Sometimes, these open in the browser
because of a setting which determines what you want to do with PDF files.

I recommend downloading the PDF and the opening it. I usually just press
Enter on the file, and the Adobe software comes up.

Many of the problems we have with PDF are due to poor construction by the
originator. Not much can be done about that except to complain vigorously.

Cordially,

Curtis Chong

Subject: [NFBCS] Online PDF questions

I'm trying to look at some PDF documents from my bank. When I select one
online, it opens, but it doesn't always display well.

I see 2 checkboxes, one for text and the other labelled draw. Do these make
a difference? I tried checking text, but it didn't seem to change anything.

I also see a spinbox for size. Does increasing the size display more on the
screen?

The document I'm trying to read today has many of the words run together.
I've seen this with PDF before. As I recall, there's no way I can fix it.
Is that right?

When I downloaded the doc, hoping it would be easier to read than online,
and opened it, I expected to see the screen reader dialog pop up, asking me
how I wanted to read the thing, but it didn't. I used alt-e to open edit,
then hit OK on the reading preferences, and then the dialog came up. Can I
make it come up every time I open a PDF doc?

Lastly, some of these bank docs have headings. Can I jump to a heading in
PDF, as I can in a website or in Word? I'm using Jaws.

Thanks.

Tracy
