The one thing I would add to this very interesting discussion is Hass to do with keyboard set up and layout a lot of laptops have predefined keys so you will need to get some assistance, possibly through Be My Eyes or Aira, or a friend to make sure that the keys act the way you want them to in many laptops the function keys are remapped to do other things so if you want to use the function keys as function keys or if you want insert to function like an insert key, you may need to have someone turn off settings in the bios to make this work or UFI or whatever the new system is called these days. Good luck.

I have a few questions and I can tell you what I would recommend and what I just did recently.

1. Do you currently use an SD card or an ethernet cable? I don't so the fact that my laptop doesn't have these doesn't bother me. You might want to make sure any laptop you has comes with these options or look into USB attachable options.
2. For me, I'd fire up Narrator and use it to install JAWS from the FS web site.
3. Will you have both laptops at the same time? If so, I'd use my old laptop as the backup. If you're using One Drive now, and syncing your documents folder with One Drive then you shouldn't have to copy anything. When you log in with your Microsoft account all of that will get set up for you and you'll access your files the same way you do now.
4. If you're using Edge, Chrome or Firefox, and you're having your favorites and settings synced with the cloud then again you won't need to do anything except sign in with your current ID's. If you're using Edge and a Microsoft account then all you need to do is make sure you have syncing set up in your current installation of Edge and you'll get all of that as soon as you sign into your new laptop.

Basically, if you have a Microsoft account and you're using One Drive and syncing your favorites with the cloud then you don't need to do anything except log into your new laptop with your same Microsoft account. If you do that, you'll also get all of the apps you've installed from the Microsoft store installed for you. Almost all I had to do when I got my new laptop was install JAWS, and I used Narrator to do this, and install the apps I didn't get from the Microsoft Store. It was the easiest and fastest set up I've ever done with a new laptop.

Subject: [NFBCS] Preparing to Purchase New Computer

Hi Everyone:

I have not been on this list for a while. I'm about to purchase a new desktop because mine is seven years old. I have a few questions that some of you may be able to answer:

1. I have seen several models without an SD card slot. Is it true that they are being phased out? I've also noticed that there is no Ethernet port either.
2. What is the easiest way to install Jaws on my new PC? Can you copy the exe to a flash drive? I was able to do this without sighted assistance seven years ago but can't remember what I did at the time.
3. I have Onedrive as part of Microsoft Office. Can I send all of my folders to Onedrive and retrieve their contents on the new PC as long as I use the same Microsoft account?
4. Can I back up my favorites and retrieve them on the new PC using the same Microsoft account?

Thanks for your response in advance.
