Greetings and salutations!
The time for the annual meeting of the National Federation of the
Blind in Computer Science (NFBCS) is less than two months away. It
will be held on Sunday, July 5, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
(registration starts at 12:30 p.m.)at the JW Marriott Hotel in
Austin, Texas, Room Salon A.
In keeping with our desire to improve the ability of blind information
technology professionals to thrive in today's workforce, we are
planning on panel discussions that focus on questions around how
artificial intelligence can enhance or threaten the ability of
blind information professionals to survive in the workplace, the
accessibility (to the blind) of artificial intelligence tools,
strategies that blind information technology professionals can use
to keep pace with their sighted peers in the workforce, and working
with companies like Microsoft to improve nonvisual access to programs
that have become essential for our survival in employment.
2026 is also the year when NFBCS elects officers and board members.
If you have paid dues to this organization, you are eligible to
vote (and, by the way, to receive a link to a recording of this
year's meeting). NFBCS dues are $5. If you pay dues in advance,
you can avoid the need to scan a QR code to pay your dues or (Heaven
forbid) give us cash!
NFBCS dues can be paid through PayPal. Just send your browser to:
https://web.nfbcal.org/nfbcsreg
Fill out the form, and activate
the Continue button to be taken to PayPal.
Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions. I will
try to respond as quickly as I am able.
Yours sincerely,
Brian Buhrow, President National Federation of the Blind in Computer Science
