[NFBCS] Limousines, Have you Ridden in a Tesla or a Waymo Yet?

Good evening Amanda and everyone,

 

                Speaking of vehicles since Tesla and Waymo now operate in Austin have you ridden in any of these vehicles? Waymo operates in San Antonio but not in our part of town Stone Oak. We’re near many top tourist attractions and hope Waymo enlarges its geofence to include this part of the city soon. I’ve watched many Waymo and Tesla trips on YouTube and have seen some Zoox trips as well. All of these have one thing in common. They’re not from the blindness perspective.

 

                Thanks to AI we’re making plans to fix that once Waymo and company begin service in our area. Using Gemini we’ve mapped out potential routes and are researching filming companies to have some of our trips filmed and yes they will include audio description. Planning the budget for this venture will also be done with AI.

 

                As for that limousine four and possibly 5 of us will be attending the various events connected with Leila’s quince thus a large vehicle will be needed. My wife Mary uses a walker and Samantha’s car transmission broke down. We identified transportation as a failure point and used good old Gemini to find a limo company that wouldn’t take us to the bank big-time. What did we get?Clark Limousine Service came to our aid and the owner will be our driver. Again we found this company using artificial intelligence.

 

                We’d like to go to Disneyworld and are using AI to explore trip options. I look forward to the day when we master Agentic AI and letting it do the heavy lifting on our behalf including making all of the reservations for us subject to our approval. Since we use AI heavily we upgraded our Gemini Plan from Pro to Ultra and made budgetary adjustments for that to happen.

 

                This may be an edge post but I thought I would catch everyone up on what Mary and I have been up to. Yup Buddy it’s Pete being Pete. Have a great weekend everyone.

A limo would be way too big and show-offey for just me, and I don't like spending much time in vehicles anyway. Fireworks are loud and smelly and hurt my ears, and I hide inside if they're going off near me. I suppose I could lower the noise level with my AirPods, but I still fail to understand the purpose of a bunch of random explosions that sound like gunshots going off.

 

I think I'll just keep testing my Monarch display in my quiet sanctuary.

Yup it’s Pete being Pete. If the NFB wants us to live the lives we want being Pete is job one here. I’ll remember this conversation when the limousine picks us up for our events and the fireworks go off on Sunday. To bring this conversation home we’re big into AI here. AI is playing a significant part in planning our event on Sunday. Programming the YouTube playlist for our Sunday Dinner is one example. Securing the limousine company, researching this event and determining how we could reimagine it for Leila and her mother were all done using AI. Why not use AI to brainstorm ways to raise funding to develop Braille Displays that meet everyone’s specifications and to develop ways to put them into the hands of blind people needing them. We’ve run stuff like this by other agencies and organizations of the blind and don’t receive the kind of pushback we’re receiving here. If this pushback continues and it doesn’t come from anywhere else in the blind community the NFB has a problem. Dream big everyone.
