Acto 2009 de las Personas Ciegas que Retornan al Trabajo

Washington, D.C. (8 de febrero del 2009):  El miembro del Congreso John
Lewis (D-GEORGIA)

ha introducido la legislación diseñada para ayudar a las personas ciegas que
reciben seguro

del Seguro Social por discapacidad (SSDI por sus siglas en Inglés) a fín de
retornar al trabajo.

El Acto 2009 de las Personas Ciegas Que Retornan al
Trabajo (H.R. 886), eliminarán las

multas que evitan que las personas ciegas entren a la fuerza laboral de
nuevo

y facilitarán su transición al empleo.





El Doctor Marc Maurer, Presidente de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos,

que ha abogado por largo tiempo este cambio en la política, dijo: "Esta
propuestta

permitirá que los millares de gente ciega se unan de Nuevo a la fuerza
laboral, y se conviertan

en ciudadanos productivos, pagadores de impuestos. Mucha gente ciega, es

comprensiblemente, renuente de tomar trabajos de inserción debído a una

pérdida inmediata de beneficios del SSDI, y el ingreso de su

trabajo compensa raramente esa pérdida. Esta legislación permitirá que las
personas

ciegas hagan una transición sin complicaciones de dependencia a

la oportunidad. Trabajaremos con el miembro del Congreso Lewis para asegurar
el paso

rápido de esta señalada legislación."





El miembro del Congreso Lewis dijo: "Los Americanos que son ciegos merecen
las mismas

oportunidades que el resto de los Americanos. Su ceguera no

evita que hagan contribuciones valiosas a nuestra sociedad, según lo

evidenciado por la mucha gente ciega exitosa que he conocido personalmente

a través de los años. Los regalos y las oportunidades de estos ciudadanos no
se deben

obstaculizar por las políticas que los desalientan de entrar a la fuerza

laboral. Éso es el porqué me siento orgulloso de colocarme con mis hermanos

y hermanas, ciegos e introducir esta legislación muy necesaria."
