Baltimore, Maryland (3 de marzo del 2009): La Federación Nacional de

Ciegos (NFB, por sus siglas en Inglés), la abogacía principal a escala
nacional para la instrucción del Braille,

Ha anunciado hoy que Larry Shepherd, director ejecutivo de la

Asociación Numismática Americana, American Numismatic Association, , servirá
como Embajador Nacional

para la instrucción del Braille. Cómo embajador, Shepherd ayudará al avance

de la campaña de la Federación, Los Lectores de Braille son Líderes, una
iniciativa nacional a fin de

promover la importancia de la lectura y de la escritura del Braille para los
niños

ciegos ,y los adultos. La campaña, Los Lectores de Braille son Líderes

comenzó en julio del 2008 con la revelación del diseño de la

moneda conmemorativa que se lanzará el 26 de marzo del 2009, en
reconocimiento

del dos centésimo aniversario del nacimiento de Louis Braille

(1809-1852), el inventor del código de la lectura y de la escritura para los

ciegos que lleva su nombre.



El Doctor Marc Maurer, Presidente de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos,

dijo: "La Federación Nacional de Ciegos tiene el placer de tener al Señor

Shepherd cómo parte de esta iniciativa histórica a fín de traer la
instrucción del

Braille a todos los niños y los adultos ciegos en América que lo
