Pronunciará el Discurso Principal en el Simposio de Notre Dame Sobre la
Ceguera

El Discurso Tratará la Educación y los Derechos Civiles para Todos los
Americanos

Baltimore, Maryland (3 de marzo del 2009): El Doctor Marc Maurer, Presidente
de la

Federación Nacional de Ciegos, la más Antigua y más grande

organización de gente ciega en los Estados Unidos, pronunciará el

discurso principal en el Foro de Estudios de la Discapacidad en Notre Dame,
en el simposio

sobre la ceguera. El simposio se llevará a cabo en la Universidad de

Notre Dame, el 6 de marzo del 2009, de 9:00 am. a 5:45 pm.  El Foro de
Estudios de la

discapacidad en Notre Dame está invitando a oradores de disciplinas basadas 
en
las artes, y

disciplinas basadas en la tecnología a fín de discutir la cultura, y la
tecnología

circundante a la ceguera, y la visión baja. El simposio también

ofrecerá una feria de tecnología que funcionará simultáneamente con la
conferencia

y que destacará los productos que la gente ciega puede utilizar.

"Me siento honrado de pronunciar el discurso principal en este simposio

influyente conducido por mi Alma Mater. Con el uso cada vez mayor de libros
de

textos electrónicos, la instrucción basada en la Red, y otra tecnología en

el salón de clase, es crítico que los educadores consideren cómo todos los
aspectos

del sistema educativo se pueden hacer accesibles a todos los estudiantes

incluyendo a los ciegos. El solamente 10 por ciento de todos los niños
ciegos está

actualmente aprendiendo a leer y a escribir utilizando el Braille. Nuestro
sistema

educativo está fallando a estos estudiantes, y este asunto se debe abordar
