Baltimore, Maryland (5 de junio del 2012): La Federación Nacional de Ciegos, la organización más antigua y más grande de personas ciegas en la nación, ha instado hoy al Senado de los Estados Unidos a ratificar la Convención de las Naciones Unidas sobre los Derechos de las Personas con Discapacidad, que se destina para proteger los derechos de las personas con discapacidad en todo el mundo.

 

El Doctor Marc Maurer, Presidente de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos, dijo: "Como una organización compuesta por personas ciegas que abogan, por nosotros mismos, sabemos la importancia fundamental de las leyes, reglamentos y políticas que protegen nuestros derechos, y nos permiten aprovechar en su totalidad, e igualmente participar en la sociedad. Todas las personas con discapacidad, en todos los países, merecen igualdad de derechos y una igualdad de oportunidades para contribuir a la sociedad. Instamos al Senado de los Estados Unidos a ratificar esta convención de inmediato para que la dignidad y los derechos de todas las personas con discapacidad sean reconocidos y protegidos."

National Federation of the Blind Urges Senate to Ratify 
Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities

 

Baltimore, Maryland (June 5, 2012): The National Federation of the Blind, the nation's oldest and largest organization of blind people, today urged the United States Senate to ratify the United Nation's Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which is intended to protect the rights of persons with disabilities throughout the world. 

 

Dr. Marc Maurer, President of the National Federation of the Blind, said: "As an organization comprised of blind people advocating for ourselves, we know the critical importance of laws, regulations, and policies that protect our rights and allow us to fully and equally participate in society.  All people with disabilities, in every country, deserve equal rights and an equal opportunity to contribute to society.  We urge the U.S. Senate to ratify this convention immediately so that the dignity and rights of all disabled people are recognized and protected."
