El Primer Vice Presidente de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos Fué Elegido por la Unión Mundial de Ciegos

 

Baltimore, Maryland (27 de noviembre del 2012): La Federación Nacional de Ciegos (NFB), la organización más grande y antigua en todo el país de personas ciegas en los Estados Unidos, y una líder mundial en la defensa de los derechos de las personas ciegas, anunció hoy que el Doctor Fredric K. Schroeder ha sido elegido como primer vicepresidente de la Unión Mundial de Ciegos (UMC). El Doctor Schroeder, quien también se desempeña como vicepresidente primero de la Federación, fué elegido para el cargo en la Octava Asamblea General de la Unión Mundial de Ciegos, celebrada recientemente en Bangkok, Tailandia.
El Doctor Marc Maurer, Presidente de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos, dijo: "Felicitamos a nuestro viejo amigo, colega y líder, Fred Schroeder, por su elección como primer vicepresidente de la Unión Mundial de Ciegos. Fred traerá habilidad invaluable, experiencia y conocimientos a los muchos retos que enfrentan las personas ciegas en todo el mundo, como lo ha hecho de manera tan competente para los estadounidenses ciegos a lo largo de su carrera".

 

El Doctor Schroeder dijo: "Me siento honrado de tener la oportunidad de representar a los ciegos de los Estados Unidos dentro de la Unión Mundial de Ciegos, y espero con placer poder ayudar a avanzar la importante agenda de la UMC para mejorar la vida de las personas ciegas en todo el mundo. El Doctor Schroeder tiene una larga y distinguida carrera en el servicio a los ciegos. Se desempeñó como el primer director ejecutivo de la Comisión para Ciegos de Nueva México. Su éxito en hacer sus programas de rehabilitación y empleo de mayor éxito en el país llevó a su nombramiento en 1994 por el presidente Bill Clinton como comisionado de la Administración de Servicios de Rehabilitación (RSA) en el Departamento de Educación de los Estados Unidos. Después de su servicio como comisionado de la Administración de Servicios de Rehabilitación, RSA, se unió a la facultad del Instituto Interwork en la Universidad de San Diego State. En la actualidad, trabaja como profesor de investigación especializada en liderazgo y políticas públicas en la rehabilitación vocacional, y también se desempeña como presidente de la filial de Virginia de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos.

National Federation of the Blind Congratulates Dr. Fredric K. Schroeder

 

NFB First Vice President Elected to Office in World Blind Union

 

Baltimore, Maryland (November 27, 2012): The National Federation of the Blind (NFB), the oldest and largest nationwide organization of the blind in the United States and a world leader in advocating for the rights of blind people,  today announced that Dr. Fredric K. Schroeder has been elected as first vice president of the World Blind Union (WBU).  Dr. Schroeder, who also serves as first vice president of the NFB, was elected to the position at the Eighth General Assembly of the World Blind Union, recently held in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

Dr. Marc Maurer, President of the National Federation of the Blind, said: "We congratulate our longtime friend, colleague, and leader Fred Schroeder on his election as first vice president of the World Blind Union.  Fred will bring invaluable skill, experience, and knowledge to the many challenges faced by blind people throughout the world, as he has done so capably for blind Americans throughout his career."

 

Dr. Schroeder said: "I am honored to have the opportunity to represent the blind of the United States within the World Blind Union, and I look forward to helping to advance the WBU's important agenda to improve the lives of blind people across the globe.  I thank the members of the WBU for placing their trust and confidence in me."

 

Dr. Schroeder has a long and distinguished career in service to the blind.  He served as the first executive director of the New Mexico Commission for the Blind.  His success in making its rehabilitation and employment programs the most successful in the country led to his appointment in 1994 by President Bill Clinton as commissioner of the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) in the United States Department of Education.  Following his service as RSA commissioner, he joined the faculty of the Interwork Institute at San Diego State University.  He now works as a research professor specializing in leadership and public policy in vocational rehabilitation, and also serves as president of the Virginia affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind.
