Es una vez más tiempo de comenzar a planificar para nuestro programa 
Buddy del 2015!

Este programa de verano de tres semanas, de diversión y aprendizaje es 
para niños de 9 a 13.

Las fechas para el 2015 son del 18 de julio hasta el 7 de agosto del 2015.




El Programa Buddy ofrece una oportunidad para que los niños ciegos hagan 
amigos y se diviertan en un ambiente positivo y seguro. Los estudiantes 
aprenderán y practicarán
técnicas alternas de la ceguera, a medida que crean fé en sí mismos.



La formación en técnicas alternas incluye instrucción en lectura y 
escritura Braille, desplazamientos básicos con el bastón, habilidades en 
la cocina, y la introducción a
habilidades independientes para la vida. Los estudiantes pueden aprender 
a vertir líquidos, llevar una bandeja de comida, lavar la ropa, seguir 
una receta, y mucho más, a medida que crean la auto-confianza en sí 
mismos y habilidades para resolver problemas.




Los estudiantes también participan en "tiempo de conversación", donde se 
discuten temas importantes sobre la ceguera con sus compañeros ciegos e 
instructores. Este tiempo da a los estudiantes
la oportunidad de discutir sus sentimientos acerca de la ceguera, sus 
frustraciones con situaciones incómodas, y les ayuda a resolver un 
problema, y desarrollar una actitud positiva
acerca de la ceguera y sus capacidades como estudiantes ciegos.




Además, los estudiantes participan en muchas actividades interesantes en 
el área de Twin Cities, tales como visitas a parques naturales, Wild 
Mountain Water Park, y la escalada de rocas. Estas actividades permiten 
a los estudiantes desarrollar sus habilidades de socialización. Las 
actividades están bien supervisadas y se proporciona tutoría para los niños
por modelos a seguir ciegos activos.
Amistades de por vida comienzan durante esta breve experiencia de verano.



Uno de nuestros objetivos durante estas actividades educativas y 
recreativas, es enseñar a nuestros estudiantes las técnicas alternas de

Here is another announcement from Charlene, this one to encourage participation of children ages 9-13 in the summer Buddy program.

Warm Greetings from BLIND, Incorporated:



It is once again time to start planning for our 2015 Buddy program!

This three-week summer fun and learning program is for children ages 9 to 13.

The dates are July 18, 2015 through August 7 2015.




The Buddy Program offers an opportunity for blind children to make friends and have fun in a positive and secure setting.  Students will learn and practice alternative techniques of blindness while building self-confidence.



The training in alternative techniques includes instruction in reading and writing Braille, basic cane travel, cooking skills, and introductions to independent living skills.  Students may learn to pour liquids, carry a food tray, do laundry, follow a recipe, and much more while building self- confidence and problem solving skills.




Students also participate in "talk time," where they discuss important issues about blindness with blind peers and instructors.  This time gives the students a chance to discuss their feelings about blindness, their frustrations with uncomfortable situations, and helps them to problem-solve and develop a positive attitude about blindness and their abilities as blind students.




In addition, students participate in many exciting activities in the Twin Cities area, such as visits to nature parks, Wild Mountain Water Park, and rock climbing.  These activities allow students to develop their socialization skills.  Activities are well supervised and mentoring for the children is provided by active blind role models.
Lifelong friendships begin during this brief summer experience.



One of our goals during these recreational\educational activities is to teach our students the alternative techniques of blindness and help them gain the self-confidence that would allow them to return home and actively participate in even more fun activities with their sighted friends.

  Activities are excellent opportunities to teach and reinforce a wide variety of alternative techniques, as they apply to real life.  These learning experiences are usually most effective when there is plenty of fun involved!
