El mes de junio es siempre ocupado en el Instituto Jernigan de la 
Federación ya que nuestro personal trabaja arduamente para tener todo 
listo para nuestra convención

nacional anual, por lo general

celebrada la primera semana de julio. Desde 1940, el tamaño y la forma 
de la convención nacional ha cambiado mucho; sin embargo, mirando a los 
registros

de convenciones primeras

alojadas en los papeles de nuestro fundador, el Doctor Jacobus tenBroek, 
es fácil ver que la mayor reunión anual de las personas ciegas en los 
Estados Unidos sigue siendo

verdad

a sus raíces. Es, y siempre ha sido, un tiempo para que los miembros se 
junten, tanto para llevar a cabo el asunto serio de la organización, 
como para fortalecer

los lazos de la familia de la Federación mediante la creación de redes, 
el intercambio de metas en común y emocionantes aventuras. Un buen

(Nota: Esta es la primera vez que la Federación Nacional de Ciegos 
celebrará su convención anual, no sólo en Tennessee, sino que en el Sur 
este año.

seguros están los ciegos? El Señor Smith Shumway; 3. Principios del 
Bienestar Público, el Señor George Card.

SÁBADO POR LA TARDE: Una Pensión de por vida para Ciegos ... 
[presentación del panel]

(El sábado por la noche muchos de los delegados van a visitar el Grand 
Ole Opry, donde un bloque de entradas ya ha sido reservado.)

DOMINGO POR LA MAÑANA 13 de julio: Programas de Rehabilitación, Empleo y 
Soporte de la expendedora... [presentaciones]

DOMINGO POR LA TARDE: La exclusión discriminatoria de Ciegos de oficios 
y profesiones ... [presentación del panel]

La tarde del domingo 13 de julio: El punto culminante de toda la 
convención llegará el domingo 13 de julio, con una recepción a los 
invitados y delegados,

seguido de un banquete.

Kenneth Jernigan, presidente de la Asociación de Ciegos de Tennessee, se 
desempeñará como maestro de ceremonias en el banquete. El gobernador 
Gordon Browning introducirá

al director representante de la tarde, el doctor Jacobus tenBroek, 
Presidente de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos. Se espera

que

unas trescientas personas asistirán a la recepción y el banquete. Además 
del Gobernador Browning, Alcalde de West Nashville, varios de los 
miembros del Congreso de Tennessee, y representantes

de varios

Grupos cívicos estarán presentes. En el banquete, los delegados del 
oeste y del norte que están visitando el Sur por primera vez podrán 
disfrutar de dos

Tennessee llevará a los delegados de la convención y a sus invitados en 
un recorrido

a través de Nashville

y algunos de los alrededores. Entre esos lugares visitados estarán el 
Parthenon, el Hermitage, y la nueva escuela para ciegos en Donelson. 
Almuerzo

y cena serán servidos en la excursión.

Lunes por la noche: Un encuentro de bolos se llevará a cabo el lunes por 
la noche. Se espera que las personas ciegas de varios estados compitan por

el título.

MARTES: Programa legislativo.

MARTES EN LA TARDE: Informe del Bastón Blanco, el informe del tesorero, 
elección de oficiales y la selección de una ciudad para la Convención 
para 1953.

The month of June is always busy at the NFB Jernigan Institute as our 
staff work hard to get everything ready for our annual national 
convention, typically

held the first week of July. Since 1940, the size and shape of the 
national convention has changed greatly; yet looking at the early 
convention records

housed in the papers of our founder, Dr. Jacobus tenBroek, it is easy to 
see that largest annual gathering of blind people in American still 
remains true

to its roots. It is, and has always been, a time for members to come 
together both to conduct the serious business of the organization and to 
strengthen

the bonds of the Federation family through networking, the sharing 
ofcommon goals, and exciting adventures. A prime example of this can be 
found in the

convention agenda for 1952:

      TENNESSEE ASSOCIATION FOR THE BLIND

OUTLINE OF PROGRAM of the NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND to be held in 
NASHVILLE at the ANDREW JACKSON HOTEL SATURDAY, July 12 through TUESDAY 
JULY 15.

(Note: This is the first time for the National Federation of the Blind 
to hold its annual convention, not only in Tennessee but in the South. 
This year

the National Federation will hold a Bowling Meet for the Blind. This 
will be the first time that the Federation has sponsored such an event...)

PROGRAM

SATURDAY MORNING, July 12: Registration in the lobby of the Andrew 
Jackson Hotel; 1. Atomic Research - A Job for the Blind, Dr. Bradley 
Burson; 2. How

Safe are the Blind? Mr. Smith Shumway; 3. Public Welfare Principles, Mr. 
George Card.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON: A Living Pension for the Blind... [panel presentation]

(On Saturday Night many of the delegates will visit the Grand Ole Opry, 
where a block of tickets has already been reserved.)

SUNDAY MORNING, July 13: Rehabilitation, Employment and Vending Stand 
Programs... [presentations]

SUNDAY AFTERNOON: Discriminatory Exclusion of the Blind from Trades and 
Professions... [panel presentation]

SUNDAY EVENING, July 13: The climax of the entire convention will come 
on Sunday, July 13, with a reception for guests and delegates, followed 
by a banquet.

Kenneth Jernigan, President of the Tennessee Association of the Blind 
will serve as toastmaster at the banquet. Governor Gordon Browning will 
introduce

the principal speaker of the evening, Dr. Jacobus tenBroek, President of 
the National Federation of the Blind. Some three hundred people are 
expected to

attend the reception and banquet. Besides Governor Browning, Mayor West 
of Nashville, several of Tennessee's Congressmen, and Representatives of 
several

Civic Groups will be present. At the banquet, Western and Northern 
delegates who are visiting the South for the first time will be treated 
to two Southern

specialities, fried chicken and chess pie.

MONDAY MORNING, July 14: Executive director's report.

MONDAY AFTERNOON: On Monday afternoon the Tennessee Association of the 
Blind will conduct the convention delegates and their guests on a tour 
through Nashville

and some of the surrounding area. Among those places visited will be the 
Parthenon, the Hermitage, and the new school for the blind at Donelson. 
Lunch

and dinner will be served on the tour.

MONDAY EVENING: A bowling meet will be held on Monday evening. Blind 
people from several states are expected to compete for honors.

TUESDAY MORNING: Legislative program.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON: White Cane report, treasurer's report, election of 
officers and selection of a Convention city for 1953.
