Greater Daytona chapter minutes
Drafted by Tangi Yonce and approved by Chapter vote
The meeting of the greater Daytona chapter was held at Steve's Famous Diner in Daytona.
The meeting took place at 1 PM with Christine Nodal holding our invocation.
Scott Larson saying the pledge of allegiance and the NFB pledge.
Joseph Young sang God bless America. Tangi Yonce has agreed to be secretary of the chapter.
We have 15 members and 3 guests in attendance. Kim Thomas has decided to be a member. We are excited to have her join with a warm welcome of applause.
Christine Nodal, board member one started the convention business that was coming up October 3 through the 5 in Altamonte Springs at the Hilton hotel
There were things that had to be finalized like transportation to and from the hotel.

Nancey Epps, Treasurer, said everyone going should be there by 11 AM at the Conklin Davis Center. If everyone is there early they could leave early to head out to the hotel. It could take about an hour to get there.
It will cost $20 each way. Make sure you have your money for both ways.
Steve Williamson, Vice President, asked what time should we be back from the convention? When need to know for our Votran bus to pick us up to go home. Nancy said she would suggest 12:30PM
The time leaving the hotel around 11 AM because of check out time.
The people going are Scott Larson, Board member 2, Steve Williamson, Vice President, Michelle May, Joni Boone, Tangi Yonce Secretary, Mike Bowmer, Pat Lipovsky and Harshid Trivedi.
Christine asked if that was it for convention business.
Nancy said that she got a request at last minute. We have $100 in door prizes. It is 5 $20 bills cash prizes and I need someone to help braille the envelopes. Scott Larson said that he would do it.

Christine asked about the Treasurer report. Nancy said that we have $10 income from fifty-fifty, $100 expenses for hospitality suite,$700 for banquet and registration. There is a $50 for donation for the NFB pack from the chapter.
The total of expenses is $850. The $100 for the door prizes has not been taken out yet .Nancy wants to know how the members feel about taking money from that was set aside for the convention. The total of that account is $1800 is reserved. The total of the account is $4320.62.

We have also two donations which do the members want the money to come from? Steve said that he made a motion to take the money from the reserved for the state convention. Cliff Rau second the motion. Christine asked the members to, all in favor The members said Yes.
Nancy said that she would revise the treasurer report.
The balance would be $1600 reserved. We will come back to decide to add income into the reserved fund.
Christine said that the month of October is a busy month. It is Disability awareness month. It is also Breast cancer awareness. We have white cane safety day coming up on October 15, 2025 at the Conklin Davis Center between 12PM to 1PM.Nancy said that some of the dignitaries are Sheriff Chitwood, the city manager of Daytona Beach that will read their proclamation, the county chair, Jeff Browerand Mat Brower, district two representative, where the Conklin Davis Center is located.
The mayor of Holly Hill, Ormond Beach, and South Daytona Beach are coming. Some of our state senators and representatives are unable to com but they will send aids to be there in their place. It would be a good time to ask questions about your area. You know if you have any concerns. This is an opportunity to let the state know in Tallahassee. The reason the state representatives are unable to attend is because a lot of them are in committees and they will be holding meetings.
Brian Norton, President, asked if everyone should be there 11AM, where will the people riding Votran wait? Nancy said that they will go into the lobby of the Conklin Davis Center. They have tables set up for Department of Transportation, DBS, and the Career Technology Training Center. They might have a table for the Talking Library.
There will be yard signs along the route to make people aware of the event. It is something like 10 signs.
The title of the White cane Day has changed to include those with mobility issues. So, it will be called White Cane and Pedestrian Safety Awareness Day.
It looks like the Mobility Week is not going to take place this year because of VOtran having new owners.
Steve said that those riding Votran should make their ride for 2PM and he recommend that bright colors should be worn because of traffic.
Brian said that he hopes NFB members show up to participate. There will be newspapers and maybe news reporters.
A reminder for the convention, bring one-dollar bills for the Dollar Auction.
Scott Larson said that much was going on in legislation that will be explained at the convention, during the legislation session. There is something about Uber BEING IN THE NEWS. The Department of Justice is investigating complaints. There is not much known right now.

Christine brought up Votran and all of the changes taking place. People have been having problems with new employees and changes in fixed routes. Brian

said that we needed someone to come talk to us about the changes taking place. We want to invite Bobby King, County director of Transportation of Volusia County.
Nancy said that she was invited but it was too short of notice. Steve said that there is a meeting on October 8, 2025 at 10AM at Big Tree road in Daytona. He recommends that we show up to tell the problems that we have been having. They have started where they do not pick up in shopping centers on fixed routes. It is dangerous to be picked up from the side of the street. The area is Sunshine Park Plaza and it is a difficult route to maneuver to get back and forth safely.
Michelle May agreed with Steve, she is having mobility challenges. It is a very long walk to the bus stop especially using a walker. Steve went on to say someone is going to get hurt! It is putting our lives in danger and he spoke to Bobby King. She was going to bring the issue to Votran's attention. Steve heard that route 10 is going to have night service stopped. This bus route includes college, Career Technology Training Center and Conklin Davis Center. There will be a lot of problems.
Bobby King was a guest speaker of the local chapter of ACB. She said there were some changes like Votran Gold will be renamed Voaccess. The logo will be VoTran. There will be online and an APP for Votran rides.
It will not be up until next year. Mike Bowmer said Voaccess will start on this side of the county, east side, and rides start off for $2 for general public and most of us would pay $1. It will go only 10 miles max. $7 minimum for the public and $3.50 for us. It will take about 20 to 45 minutes to get a ride. Mike said that you can get a ride by calling in, using their accessible website, or accessible app. They are also going to put Uber on it as an option to get a ride.
Steve said that Diane Walker is out with some problems but she is working on a project to raise money for the Fund-Raising Committee.
Our next meeting is going to be on October 25, 2025
Christine said that our Christmas will be on December 6,2025 at Carrabba's located at 2200 West International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach.
The party will be from 1PM to 4PM We will just order from the menu. We won't be exchanging presents. We can ask again at the November meeting to see if anyone changes their minds. The meeting will be on November 22, 2025. The fifty-fifty was won by Cliff. He got$15.
Christine asked if there were any birthdays or anniversaries. No one had any.
We should think of other places to hold our meetings. Steve recommends Louis Pizza in Daytona as a suggestion. He hopes that maybe there are some places that members can come up with next year.
Steve asked who will be running the meeting next month. Christine said that Scott Larson will be holding the meeting.
Christine wanted everyone to know that Alexa has a portable battery that has a bag. It enables you to take Alexa with you. The meeting was adjourned at 2:37PM by Steve and seconded by Christine.
