</o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--></head><body lang=EN-US link="#467886" vlink="#96607D" style='word-wrap:break-word'><div class=WordSection1><p class=MsoNormal>December 2023 Minutes <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Greater Daytona Beach Chapter <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>National Federation of the Blind <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The regular meeting of the Greater Daytona Beach Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind was held on Saturday, December 9. It took place at Steve’s Famous Diner, 1584 S nova Road, South Daytona, Florida. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>This was a special meeting during the holiday party, as there was some business to be attended to. The chapter did not have a formal meeting in November. There had been confusion over the date that had been agreed to, and the room at Houligan’s ended up being used by a veteran’s organization on Nov. 11. This of course took precedence, so we had some informal social time in the main dining area of the restaurant. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>President Brian Norton called the meeting to order at 12:25 p. m. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>At the start of the meeting Brian noted Kathy Davis had received a cancer diagnosis, and noted his own treatment, which is progressing well. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Christine Nodal opened the meeting with a prayer. Members recounted the many roles Kathy Davis has filled in both the blindness community in the area in the community in general. She is still very much with us and is expected to recover. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Chef Henry, the long time cook at the Conklin Center during its original incarnation, has passed on. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Steve Walker, Diane’s husband had a fall at home and was hospitalized, so she was absent but gave holiday greetings. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>A moment of silence was requested for Tom Bellone who had recently passed. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Introductions were then held. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>50/50 tickets were sold for a drawing. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Steve Williamson won the drawing before the meeting continued. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Brian announced the board had agreed that 2024 chapter dues would be paid for those in attendance at the party out of existing chapter funds. This was in place of the chapter paying for the meal at the gathering. Members who did not attend would be required to pay the $10 dues themselves. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Brian noted Christina Spears was about to undergo tests for a heart condition. He then paused the meeting for meditation for those who have passed or need positive thoughts for health concerns. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The membership then sang a series of traditional Christmas songs. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Brian made note of the birth of Peggy Fleischer’s granddaughter. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024.
