Greetings Greater Jacksonville Chapter members:

As I am sure many of you have, the affiliate board of the National
Federation of the Blind of Florida has been keeping a very close watch on
the weather, and the track of hurricane Milton.

After much discussion and consideration, we, the affiliate board have
decided to postpone our State Convention that was to be held this weekend at
the South Bank Hotel in Jacksonville. Many of our members from around the
state rely on transportation such as Amtrak and Greyhound that simply will
not be in service. We also want to be sure that our members can travel
safely as they come to our events.

Many Jacksonville Federationists have worked tirelessly to make this year's
convention a success. I for one appreciate the work that everyone has done
to be sure our guests have a wonderful time in Jacksonville. The affiliate
board will be in contact with the hotel today and will work to come up with
an alternative weekend so that our convention can take place.

Our constitution states that we have to have a convention each year, so we
will be selecting an alternative date within 2024. Please keep a close eye
on this email list as I will be updating everyone as soon as I know anything
at all.

If you were planning to stay at the South Bank hotel at all this weekend,
please call them at 904-396-5100 and cancel your reservation. The hotel has
assured us that there will be no penalty for the cancelation.

If you were planning to make a donation to the hospitality room or any other
part of convention, we will still graciously accept the donation at our
alternate date and time.

Again I want to express my thanks and appreciation for our chapter's
willingness to be flexible during this time.

In closing, I hope all of you remain safe during Milton's rath. If you feel
you need to evacuate, don't delay. Use today to prepare and travel to your
evacuation site so that your safety is secured. If you need anything at all,
please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Warmly,

Kaye Baker
