The announcement you’ve been waiting for is finally here! We are excited to announce that the Greater Jacksonville Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Florida will hold our monthly Chapter meeting this Saturday, August 1st 2026 from 10:00 AM until noon. We have much to do this year, but I know by working together we can achieve all of our goals and can exceed the high expectations that we have set for ourselves, blind and low vision people have no problem with this mindset! To begin preparing yourself for our action-packed Saturday morning, please take a look at the meeting information and agenda shown below. Please take note of the Saturday meeting location. The change in meeting location is happening in order to accommodate our fun summer lunch event and to allow for the expected number of members and guests to meet in a relaxed setting.
Because one of our goals is to grow Chapter membership, please feel free to invite visitors to join us and let them know that they will be welcomed and that their presence will be appreciated by all of us. I am hopeful that several interested members of our community will be attending their first National Federation of the Blind gathering and believe that our festive summer meeting and social is the perfect way for them to be introduced to our tremendous River City family.
Speaking of a summer social, we will be serving lunch when the meeting has adjourned. Your Chapter Board has met several times to discuss a fun food serving opportunity and has opted to serve hotdogs, sides, cookies and drinks. The Chapter will use some of it’s funds to take care of the expenses, but if Chapter members can contribute a bit, (maybe $5.00 or so), that would help a great deal. We aren’t asking our guests to contribute, but donations would be gratefully accepted and appreciated.
We don’t often ask for an RSVP for a Chapter meeting, but if you wouldn’t mind, please RSVP and let me know that you will be at the meeting and lunch and let me know how many will be in your party. That will help us know how much food to purchase.
Another of our Chapter goals is to become more involved within our community and to gather together outside of our monthly meetings. Having you with us tomorrow morning will help us reach this goal.
Event: Monthly meeting of the Greater Jacksonville Chapter of the NFB of Florida
Date/Time: Saturday, August 1st – 10:00 AM – Noon
Location: Colonial Point Condominium’s, clubhouse
5201 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. 32207
Our meetings are open to all, and whether you are a current or former member, or someone who wants to learn more, we hope you will join us in person and that you will tell others about our Chapter and our warm and welcoming organization. The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you and we encourage you to join us and learn how you can live the life you want. It can be an amazing life, because blindness is not what holds us back.
We are encouraging in-person attendance at all of our meetings as strong internet connections and high-quality audio are not always within our control. Our primary focus is to ensure that we deliver the best presentation possible for those who are with us in person while trying to maintain a virtual presence. We regret that some attendees on Zoom have occasionally struggled to get in, stay in and feel like a full participant during our meetings. The Zoom information can be found at the bottom of this email.
You’ll notice with the meeting agenda shown below that we are not only taking care of customary business items, but that we are also planning for future meetings and events. We’ll spend some quality time reviewing a vital component to any successful organization, that being, communication. Several visitors from the National Federation of the Blind of Florida will be joining us to discuss communication outlets within the NFB. This won’t be the only time this year that we discuss how members can obtain valuable information about what is happening within the NFB and within the blindness community as a whole.
A reminder to everyone to bring your collection of clean plastic shopping bags, (the type you’d get from stores like Publix), to donate to the Micah’s Backpack Project.
