> It is unfortunate that the images of blindness portrayed by the
> media are generally either of the helpless blind person unable to perform
> the simplest task or of the blind person endowed with superhuman powers to
> compensate for their loss of eyesight. The truth is that blind people, as
> a group, are no less functional or no more gifted than the average sighted
> person. Blind people can do most of the things the average sighted person
> can, and do them as well! This includes bowling!

> The East Hillsborough Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind
> (NFB) is inviting blind and visually impaired people of all ages to join
> them for a morning of one of America's favorite indoor sports! Through a
> special arrangement with Oakfield Lanes, the NFB will host a social
> bowling activity on Saturday, April 11 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. The
> special cost for bowling will be only $2.00 per game plus $2.00 for shoe
> rental. Oakfield Lanes is located at 1001 Oakfield Drive in Brandon and
> provides rails for blind bowlers. The Federation will offer instruction
> to anyone who wants to learn to bowl using non-visual techniques. In
> addition, any person who is legally blind will be given an order form to
> receive a free white cane compliments of the National Federation of the
> Blind. RSVPs are required in order to ensure enough lanes! A brief Chapter
> meeting will be held after bowling. For more information about the blind
> bowling activity, the free white cane offer, or help and support with
