Young Eric Marten had his board of review last night and was awarded the rank of Life Scout with troop 333, www.troop333. net, here in Jacksonville and will now be spending the next year working on his Eagle.  So far, this troop has produced 82 Eagle Scouts. Quite an achievement considering that only about 5% of scouts achieve the rank of Eagle.

Larry & I are very proud of Eric. As a blind scout, he worked through the ranks with the same requirements as his sighted peers. Eric is known in his troop as the scout that "tries his best at everything". After his board of review last night, his scout master Joe Krier told us the board was very impressed with Eric's honesty in how he eloquently described his own personal growth since joining the troop in 2005. 

While Eric has previously been Scout Librarian and Patrol Leader, his new job in the troop is that of the Scribe. The Scribe keeps the troop records. He records the activities of the patrol leaders' council and keeps a record of dues, advancement, and Scout attendance at troop meetings. 

Sounds like an NFB Leader in the making!
