Subj: Upcoming Change in GSA Application Process
On December 2, 2009 GSAjobs, GSA's online job application system, will be
integrated with the Office of Personnel Management's USAJOBS web site.
In
preparation for the integration, all currently listed GSA vacancies will
close by 11:59pm (eastern time) November 30, 2009. Please check the
closing
date of the announcement to which you are applying as it may close prior
to
this date. This integration will make it easier and more efficient for
you
to apply for jobs and manage your on-line applications from one website.
The integration with USAJOBS allows applicants to:
* View and apply for GSA job openings directly from the USAJOBS site,
utilizing their USAJOBS account/login
information.
* Create and store up to five resumes on-line
* Create up to ten separate search agents to receive email
notifications for new job postings
* Track the status of jobs, for which applications were submitted
through USAJOBS, in one central location
* Self Service for user ID and password reset
To prepare for this change and familiarize yourself with the new process,
you should create an account on USAJOBS (www.usajobs.gov). If you have
not
applied for a Federal job using USAJOBS, you will need to create a new
account. Your account will consist of personal information, your user id
and
password, and at least one Federal resume. If you are already registered
in
the USAJOBS system there's no need to re-register.
Please be aware that after December 1, 2009, the information you have in
the GSAjobs system, including your resume, will no longer be available for
you to access. In addition, effective December 2, 2009 new GSA job
listings
will only be posted to the USAJOBS web site as the GSAjobs search page
(https://jobs1.quickhire.com/scripts/gsa.exe) will no longer be available.
Tips for the USAJOBS registration process:
Create an Account
On the USAJOBS website, select the MY USAJOBS option and click "Create
Account." You will be prompted to provide contact information, establish
user
access information and provide citizenship and veterans' preference
information. After you enter this information, your new personal page
will be
created. From this page, you can choose to create a new resume or set up
email
notification agents to alert you to new jobs posted to USAJOBS.
Creating and Storing a Resume
Create and save résumés - (up to five different versions) specifically
designed for applying for Federal jobs. To add a resume on USAJOBS, use
the
resume builder provided. You can copy resume information currently stored
in
the GSAjobs system, and add it to your USAJOBS resume library. Remember
to do this before December 1, 2009. Resumes created on USAJOBS will be
centrally stored and can be used to apply for GSA and other Federal jobs
that
accept online applications from the USAJOBS system.
Creating a Jobs Search Agent (Email notification) USAJOBS allows you to
create up to 10 different search agents. These search agents will enable
you
to receive email notification of new jobs postings that may be of
interest
to you specifically for GSA occupations, or other factors you select.
USAJOBS email notification agent(s) will replace any notification
preferences
you may have set up in the GSAjobs system. You can elect to receive
these
notifications on a daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis.
Applying for jobs
After establishing your USAJOBS account and creating at least one resume,
you are ready to apply for a job. You can apply for most jobs using your
USAJOBS online résumé. All you have to do is log on to USAJOBS and
follow
the instructions provided in the vacancy announcement to complete the
application process. Check the "How to Apply" tab of current vacancy
announcements for specific instructions for submitting your application.
There you will
find a list of any additional forms required and a contact name and phone
number at the hiring agency. Most importantly, read the entire
announcement
carefully and follow the instructions. For more information about the
USAJOBS application process, please visit:
