Transcript of the Governor's Video Message
Hi, I'm Charlie Crist.
October is an important month for Floridians with disabilities. Tomorrow, we kick off Disability Employment Awareness Month, when businesses and employers are encouraged to follow the State's lead in providing job shadowing and employment opportunities to persons with disabilities.
Last year, I had the privilege of signing legislation designating the first two weeks of October as Disability History and Awareness Weeks. For the second year, Florida schools will provide opportunities for students to learn about the talents and contributions of persons with disabilities in academics, science, business, politics, and entertainment.
Floridians with disabilities are an important part of our state's workforce. People with disabilities deserve the opportunity to work. That is why I am pleased, once again, to serve as an honorary chair during this year's Disability Mentoring Day, which is Wednesday, October 21. I encourage Florida's business leaders and employers to learn more about how your organization can utilize this pool of untapped talent. To learn more, I encourage you to visit www.FloridaDMD.org.
Working together, we can create a diverse and dynamic workforce for all of Florida. Thanks again so much.
