Okay, since no one has taken a shot at this for which I am amazed here is a
hint.

The construction project mentioned below in my question actually replaced a
structure that was originally built in 1954 and was damaged in 1980 and
therefore needed to be replaced.

Okay, this one is just for the fun of it so here goes.

 

Right here in central Florida construction began in 1982 on a major project
that wouldn't be finished until 1987.  It is still here today can you name
it?
