                        TAKE ACTION!

                        Call

                        1-866-922-4970

to reach your Senator and tell them to

                        STOP MEDICAID CUTS!

With both the House and Senate in session

                        THIS WEEK

we expect the debate about how to reduce the deficit to be front and center.

We need YOU to call your Senators and Representatives and tell them DON'T CUT MEDICAID.

Cuts to this vital program will only shift costs to states and transfer the burden onto people with disabilities, children and their families.

Medicaid is critical for the health care of 8 million people with disabilities.

                         Take Action! Save Medicaid!

Communities of Color Make up 43% of Medicaid Population with Disabilities: The Ryan Proposal's Disproportionate Impact

via the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights (6.10.11):

Ryan Proposal to Block Grant Medicaid Would Disproportionately Impact Communities of Color

People with disabilities constitute 15 percent of Medicaid beneficiaries but account for 42 percent of all Medicaid expenditures, mostly because of their extensive health and long-term care needs. Capping federal Medicaid funding would place significant financial pressure on states to scale back eligibility and coverage for this high-cost population, many of whom would be unable to obtain coverage elsewhere because of their medical conditions.

Communities of color make up approximately 43 percent of the Medicaid population with disabilities, with Blacks comprising 29 percent, Asians 2 percent, and Hispanics 7 percent, respectively...

Advocates Rally to Protect Medicaid, AAPD Board Chair Tony Coelho Weighs In

Via the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights (6.10.11):

"People throughout the world look up to the United States because of what we've done for people with disabilities," said Tony Coelho, board chair of the American Association of People with Disabilities and a former Congressman.

"Medicaid is critical for health care for eight million people with disabilities. It's inhuman for us to consider these types of changes in our social programs when there are so many other ways of reducing deficits"...
