What a wonderful suggestion!  Michael May's story has given hope to many blind people around the world. This is one of the most inspirational writings of its time.   Matt, I'm sure that you can clearly "see" or at least feel the caring nature that most of us have regarding your emotional struggle with blindness.

You might want to read CRASHING THROUGH by Michael May.  He describes what
it is like to see for the first time as an adult and all the situations it
presents.  

It is an excellent book.
